A 22-year-old woman was killed by her live-in partner in Andhra Pradesh’s Ambedkar Konaseema district after she refused to engage in prostitution, police said.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night in Siddhartha Nagar of B Savaram village under Rajolu mandal. The victim, Oleti Pushpa, had been living with Sheikh Shamma, also aged 22, for the past six months after separating from her husband. They had rented a house in the village.
According to the police, Shamma recently began suspecting Pushpa of having relationships with other men. He reportedly pressured her to engage in prostitution and would often pick quarrels with her under the influence of alcohol.
Around 10 pm on Wednesday, a heated argument broke out between the two when Shamma again insisted that she accompany him for sex work. When she refused, he allegedly attacked her with a knife, stabbing her in the left side of her chest and in her leg.
Pushpa’s mother Ganga and her brother, who attempted to intervene, were also assaulted by Shamma and sustained injuries. Pushpa died on the spot from excessive bleeding.
Rajolu Circle Inspector Naresh Kumar said that a case has been registered. Two police teams have been deployed to trace the accused, who is currently absconding.
