The India Meteorological Department (IMD) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, is set to establish Andhra Pradesh’s second Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) at Amalapuram in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. Currently, the only operational CWC in the State is located in Visakhapatnam.
On Tuesday, IMD scientists led by District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar finalised the site for the new CWC centre in Amalapuram.
The upcoming CWC is likely to monitor weather patterns in the Krishna and Godavari basins.
Mr. Mahesh Kumar said that stakeholders, including farmers and fishermen, would benefit from daily weather updates and alerts, helping them make informed decisions and improve disaster preparedness.
