Harvard University has appointed two distinguished alumni of Indian origin—Anjali Sud and Sanjay Seth—to prominent leadership roles, further reinforcing its global representation amid evolving challenges and opportunities.

Who Is Anjali Sud

Anjali Sud, the Indian-American CEO of streaming platform Tubi, has been elected to Harvard University’s Board of Overseers. She will serve a two-year term beginning 30 May 2025, filling the vacancy left by former Canadian Prime Minister and ex-Bank of England Governor Mark Carney, who resigned after assuming leadership of Canada’s Liberal Party.

The Board of Overseers, established in 1642, is Harvard’s second-highest governing body. It plays a crucial role in advising university leadership, assessing academic programmes, and overseeing external reviews of the institution’s various departments and schools.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1983 to Punjabi immigrant parents and raised in Flint, Sud’s journey reflects a classic American Dream narrative. She earned her undergraduate degree in finance and management from the University of Pennsylvania and went on to receive her MBA from Harvard Business School in 2011.

Sud began her career with stints at Amazon, Time Warner, and mergers and acquisitions before joining Vimeo in 2012 as Vice President of Global Marketing. She eventually became Vimeo’s CEO, successfully transforming it into a SaaS platform for video creators and leading its public listing in 2021. In 2023, she took over as CEO of Tubi, which has grown into one of the most-watched free streaming services in the US with nearly 100 million monthly active users.

Beyond her executive roles, Sud serves on the boards of Dolby Laboratories, Change.org (where she is board chair), and is part of the executive committee of Phillips Academy Andover’s development board, focusing on financial aid initiatives. She currently resides in New York City and is a mother of two.

Sud’s election also coincides with politically sensitive times for Harvard, as the university faces heightened tensions with the US federal government over international student policies and academic freedom.

Who Is Sanjay Seth

Joining Sud in Harvard’s leadership ranks is Sanjay Seth, an Indian-American climate and sustainability expert, who has been elected as one of the new directors of the Harvard Alumni Association (HAA). His three-year term will commence on 1 July 2025.

The HAA Board, where Seth will serve, focuses on enhancing alumni engagement, community-building, and volunteer leadership across Harvard’s global alumni base.

Originally from Bismarck, North Dakota, Seth was born to Indian-origin parents in Australia and holds dual master’s degrees from Harvard—an MPA from the Kennedy School of Government and a Master’s in Urban Planning from the Graduate School of Design, both earned in 2019. He completed his undergraduate studies at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Professionally, Seth has built a career at the intersection of climate policy, community organising, and government service. He served as Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor for Climate and Equity at the US Environmental Protection Agency’s New England office. Prior to that, he worked as Climate Resilience Program Manager for the City of Boston and contributed to climate resilience efforts in New York City.

At Harvard, Seth co-founded the Harvard Alumni for Climate and the Environment group and was a fellow with the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative. During his student years, he spearheaded cross-school climate curriculum efforts and founded the Climate Leaders Programme, fostering collaboration among students across disciplines.

Trump Vs Harvard Tensions Add Political Undercurrent

Sud’s election comes at a time when Harvard is entangled in legal and political disputes with the Trump administration. The university has faced pressure over demands to share records of international students involved in recent campus protests. After Harvard refused to comply, its international student exchange programmes were suspended, prompting the university to file a lawsuit against the federal government. The case is currently under judicial review, with a temporary stay on the suspension.
