Another Cal HC bench declines to hear Abhishek PA bail plea

Kolkata: Another Calcutta High Court bench on Friday declined to hear the anticipatory bail plea by TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee’s personal assistant Sumit Roy, stating the matter was already being heard by Justice Jay Sengupta.Roy’s counsel approached Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya’s bench on Friday morning for urgent hearing of two matters filed by Roy. He submitted that cops were checking buses en route to Siliguri in search of Roy.An FIR was filed against Roy by Salboni PS on June 5 in connection with an alleged illegal transaction of land in 2021.As Justice Bhattacharyya released the case after perusing a similar June 30 order of Justice Suvra Ghosh, Roy’s counsel submitted, “That bench (Justice Sengupta) is not sitting, where do we go... If the judge doesn’t sit. What do we do? They are stopping buses. Where do we go?”“Don’t put this court in awkward position,” Justice Bhattacharyya told Roy’s counsel.
