Reacting to the disruption, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya criticised BMRCL, claiming it was the 21st reported technical disruption on Namma Metro since January 2024.

For the second time in a week, Bengaluru’s Namma Metro witnessed a technical disruption after a Purple Line train developed a fault at Cubbon Park Metro Station on Thursday, leaving passengers briefly stranded inside the train and affecting services across the corridor.
The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) later resolved the issue and restored normal operations. However, the latest incident has once again raised concerns over the frequency of technical glitches on the city’s Metro network.
Reacting to the disruption, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya criticised BMRCL, claiming it was the 21st reported technical disruption on Namma Metro since January 2024.
“This is just crazy. Another day. Another disruption. Since January 2024, this is the 21st reported technical disruption on Namma Metro. No metro charges commuters as much as BMRCL does. Yet few metro systems have seen this frequency of disruptions," Surya wrote on X.
The BJP MP said he had written to the Commissioner of Railway Safety (Southern Circle) seeking an inquiry into the recurring disruptions. He also asked BMRCL to publicly respond to five questions related to inspection protocols, maintenance records and the latest technical failure.

“I have written to the Commissioner of Railway Safety (Southern Circle). Meanwhile, BMRCL must answer five simple questions: 1. What is the prescribed inspection frequency for the third rail infrastructure, including the bolts, fasteners and all components securing the third rail alignment? 2. When was the last inspection of the affected section conducted, and what were its findings? 3. Was the inspection carried out by BMRCL personnel or by a third-party agency? If outsourced, who was the agency, and what was the scope of work? 4. Will BMRCL place in the public domain the inspection reports, maintenance records and audit findings for the affected section covering the last 12 months? 5. Has a Root Cause Analysis (RCA) been completed? If so, the report must be made public. Bengaluru commuters deserve transparency, accountability and above all, a safe Metro system," the MP said on X.
Bengaluru Metro Faces Glitch, Leaves Commuters Stranded
The latest disruption comes just days after another major technical snag crippled Purple Line services during the evening rush hour on June 23.
A train had developed a technical fault at Cubbon Park Metro Station around 6:32 pm, disrupting services across multiple stations, including Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha, Central College, Majestic and Railway Station. Thousands of commuters were left stranded during peak hours as long queues formed outside Metro stations.
With roads already choked with traffic, many office-goers resorted to alternative modes of transport. Videos widely shared on social media showed stranded passengers climbing onto trucks and lorries to continue their journey, triggering fresh criticism of Bengaluru’s transport infrastructure.
BMRCL had then deployed technical teams to the site and gradually restored services while operating trains on unaffected sections of the Purple Line.
