“The Embassy of India expresses its deepest condolences on the tragic demise of an Indian national in Riyadh due to recent events on March 18th," the mission said in a statement.
A senior official of the MEA said the death occurred during an attack in Riyadh.
“Late last night, we received information regarding the tragic demise of an Indian national during an attack in Riyadh on 18th March. We express our deepest condolences to the family," he said.
He added that the Indian mission is in constant touch with the bereaved family and local authorities to ensure the early repatriation of mortal remains. The embassy is also facilitating documentation and providing full consular support.
The latest casualty takes the number of Indian nationals killed in the ongoing regional conflict to six, with one person still reported missing.
“Our missions in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Iraq, and the UAE are in regular touch with authorities regarding the missing Indian national and repatriation of mortal remains," the official said.
The incident comes amid intensifying hostilities across the Gulf, with missile and drone attacks increasingly affecting civilian areas in addition to energy infrastructure.
Alongside managing casualties, the government is also coordinating evacuations and rescue operations. Mahajan said 15 Indian crew members of MT Safesea Vishnu, who were rescued earlier, have departed Iraq and are expected to arrive in India via Saudi Arabia.
This follows earlier repatriation efforts in which 24 Indian seafarers, 16 from MV MKD Vyom and 8 from MT Skylight returned safely from Oman.
With the conflict in West Asia entering its 21st day, Indian authorities and diplomatic missions remain on high alert, closely monitoring the situation and working to ensure the safety of the Indian diaspora across the region.
