Anti-rowdy squads to tackle  rowdy activities

Hubballi: The Hubballi-Dharwad police commissionerate formed exclusive dedicated anti rowdy squads within the limits of each police station in Hubballi-Dharwad to maintain continuous watch on rowdy activities, police said.Following the directions from MA Saleem, DGP, each squad will be headed by a PSI attached to the respective police station. Police teams were formed based on the areas covered by each police station and will carry out monitoring of rowdy activities within their respective jurisdictions.The Hubballi-Dharwad police commissionerate directed all police stations under its jurisdiction to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards rowdyism and anti-social activities.

Police said any instance of intimidation, extortion, forcible collection, public disorder, gang activity or other unlawful conduct by rowdy elements will be dealt with promptly and firmly in accordance with law.The rowdy squad will conduct verification of criminal cases registered against individuals and initiate the opening of new rowdy sheets wherever applicable, as per procedure. The squads were instructed to maintain updated information regarding all rowdy sheeters and anti-social elements within the jurisdiction of each police station.

Police said teams will conduct regular surveillance and verification of the activities, movements and associations of rowdy sheeters, in accordance with law. This monitoring will include tracking patterns of behaviour, known associations and movements, with the objective of preventing incidents linked to intimidation, extortion, forcible collection and other forms of public disorder.The commissionerate said the squads will identify emerging rowdy elements, gangs and criminal groups operating within their limits and collect actionable intelligence to support timely intervention, strengthen preventive policing and enable prompt legal action wherever unlawful conduct is detected.Police said the measures were designed to ensure that rowdy elements do not create fear among residents or disrupt public peace, and that any such activities are addressed through firm and lawful action. The anti rowdy squads are expected to function as dedicated units within each police station, coordinating with station staff while focusing specifically on surveillance, verification, record maintenance and intelligence collection related to rowdy sheeters and other anti-social elements.Shruthi NS, DCP, law and order, Hubballi-Dharwad, said that a total 15 dedicated anti rowdy squads have been formed, the teams led by PSIs consisting of ASIs, head constables and constables will be part of the teams.She said the teams will have to ensure effective execution of warrants, bonds and other lawful proceedings against rowdy elements. Maintain close liaison with beat staff and local intelligence sources. Conduct special drives and surprise checks in vulnerable areas. Circle inspectors and station house officers shall personally review the functioning of rowdy squads every fortnight.
