Apple has announced a multi-year partnership expansion with chipmaker Broadcom worth over $30 billion. The deal will see the production of more than 15 billion chips made in the US, CNBC reported.
A major share of the multi-billion dollar agreement includes a $1.5 billion physical expansion of Broadcom’s manufacturing facility in Fort Collins, Colorado. The report says that Apple has not yet shared an exact timeline for when the new factory lines will officially come online.Broadcom has been a longtime supplier of the wireless components that allow iPhones and iPads to seamlessly connect to cellular networks, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and this new deal strengthens their relationship around custom American silicon.Citing a security filing from Broadcom, the report said that the company will develop and supply specialised “custom ASIC silicon products” for multiple generations of Apple hardware stretching all the way through 2031. These custom-built circuits are coveted in the tech industry as they are uniquely optimised to handle heavy Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads.
Apple CEO Tim Cook’s farewell 'nod' to Trump administration
For Apple’s outgoing CEO, Tim Cook, this agreement serves as a major milestone in his years-long push to bring tech manufacturing back to American soil, which has been a primary goal of the Trump administration.
The $30 billion commitment is a part of Apple’s $600 billion, four-year US investment strategy that was first announced in 2025. It also marks the single largest financial pledge ever made under Apple's American Manufacturing Program (AMP).“Apple has been working with the Administration and businesses across the US to help create an end-to-end silicon supply chain in America, and today’s announcement advances those efforts,” Apple said.Tim Cook praised the local workforce, stating that the components manufactured at the Colorado plant are “essential” to providing the premium performance and flawless connectivity that Apple customers worldwide expect. Broadcom CEO Hock Tan expressed equal excitement for the future, noting that Apple’s financial commitment will allow the chipmaker to scale up its operations and secure its manufacturing footprint in Fort Collins for the next decade.
