Apple's new AirPods Max 2 arrive with a significant upgrade, featuring the powerful H2 chip for enhanced features like adaptive audio and real-time AI translation. Boasting up to 1.5x more effective noise cancellation and improved spatial audio, these headphones also support 24-bit lossless audio. Retaining the iconic design, pre-orders begin March 25th.
Apple has launched the AirPods Max 2, finally giving its premium over-ear headphones a meaningful upgrade. The original AirPods Max launched back in December 2020, and apart from a USB-C port swap and new colours in 2024, hadn't really changed.
That's more than five years of waiting for a proper successor.The big upgrade here is the H2 chip, which replaces the ageing H1 from the first generation. It's the same silicon that's been powering the AirPods Pro and AirPods 4 for a while now, and it brings along a bunch of features the Max line never had access to. Think adaptive audio, conversation awareness, voice isolation, and AI-powered live translation that works in real time across languages like Hindi, Japanese, Korean, and several others when paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone.
The H2 chip closes a long-standing feature gap with AirPods Pro
Apple says ANC on the Max 2 is up to 1.5x more effective than before, backed by new computational audio algorithms. Transparency mode also gets a refresh with a new digital signal processing algorithm that makes ambient sound feel more natural. Under the hood, there's a new high dynamic range amplifier that improves spatial audio with better instrument separation and tighter bass response.Wired listening gets an upgrade too. The Max 2 now supports 24-bit, 48kHz lossless audio over USB-C.
Apple also says these are the only headphones that let musicians create and mix in personalised spatial audio with head tracking on Logic Pro.
Design stays the same; pre-orders open March 25
Visually, nothing has changed. The AirPods Max 2 retain the same over-ear build with the mesh canopy headband, and ship in midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue. No new case design either, which is bound to disappoint some buyers at this price.Priced at Rs 67,900, the pre-orders for the AirPods Max 2 open on March 25 s, with deliveries expected in early April. Apple is also bundling three free months of Apple Music for new subscribers who pick up a pair.
