The district administration has denied permission for a fireworks display at the upcoming Arattupuzha Pooram festival.

According to an order issued by the Additional District Magistrate, permission had been sought to conduct fireworks on March 24, 29 and 30 as part of the celebrations. However, the request was denied after authorities found that the necessary safety conditions could not be met at the proposed venue.

Officials noted that several houses are located within a 100-metre radius of the fireworks site. In previous years, fireworks displays at the same location had reportedly caused damage to nearby houses.

The order also pointed out that it would not be possible to maintain the mandatory safety distance of 100 metres between the fireworks launching area and the place where spectators gather. In the absence of adequate physical conditions to ensure a safe display, the administration concluded that conducting fireworks would pose a risk to life and property.

Both the District Police Chief and the District Fire Officer had recommended that permission should not be granted, citing concerns over public safety.

Taking into account the lack of adequate safety arrangements and the backdrop of previous fireworks-related incidents, the district administration denied permission under Section 6C(1)(c) of the Explosives Act, 1884, stating that the proposed display could pose a threat to the lives and property of the public.
