Koderma: A 54-year-old man from Jehanabad in Bihar was arrested with firearms from a primary school in Satganwa police station limits of the district on Friday. The man, identified as Rameshwar Prasad, confessed to being involved in trade of illegal weapons.
Prasad was arrested in a raid at Gajhad Tola of Kataiya.Prasad was found sleeping under the stairs of Gajhad Tola Primary School. The police team, led by the officer-in-charge of Satganwa police station Saurabh Kumar Sharma, seized a country-made carbine, four rifles, and five live cartridges from the accused. The arms were hidden in a plastic bag. “The arrest was part of a district-wide campaign to curb the trafficking of illegal weapons and prevent organised crime,” SP Anudeep Singh said.Prasad, who the police claimed had confessed of switching to arms smuggling from labour work, procured weapons from a man in Nalanda. To avoid detection, the accused adopted a transient lifestyle. He hid his arsenal in nearby forests during the day and returned to the school grounds at night as local villagers refused to provide him shelter. “Others linked to the network are being identified,” SP added.
