Arnold Schwarzenegger said he was shocked after Charlie Kirk’s murder. He spoke on Monday, September 16, 2025, at Democracy Day at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. The former California governor called Kirk a “great communicator.
” He said Kirk could debate with people who agreed with him and with people who did not. Schwarzenegger blamed politicians, social media, and the media for the deep divide in America. He warned the country is close to a “cliff” where democracy could fall apart.

Arnold Schwarzenegger told the USC crowd that leaders on both sides are making America angry. He said their words are filled with hate. He warned, “We have to be very, very careful that we don’t get any closer to the cliff. Because when you fall down the cliff, down there, there’s no democracy.”He also spoke about the role of social media. He said it spreads anger fast and makes fights worse.
He added that news outlets also play a part.
Arnold Schwarzenegger told young people they have the power to change this. He asked students to step up, work with others, and bring unity. He called the younger generation the only hope to fix what is broken.
