Arsenal are really not in the mood to let this title race get interesting. The Gunners kept their five-point cushion at the top on Wednesday, seeing off Brentford 2-0 at the Emirates.
Mikel Merino continued his hot streak, justifying Arteta’s decision to start him ahead of the fully-fit Viktor Gyökeres. Ben White whipped in a beauty, and Merino powered home his 11th of the campaign.
Arteta didn’t hold back on the praise either: “The movement, the timing, the finish… phenomenal."
Bukayo Saka came on, added fresh legs, and eventually sealed the deal in stoppage time with a rocket that Kelleher couldn’t keep out. Job done.
Elsewhere, Chelsea’s season found a new low. With Daniel Farke reportedly one bad night away from unemployment, Leeds delivered a fired-up, season-saving 3-1 win at Elland Road — and dragged themselves out of the relegation zone in the process.
Jaka Bijol’s early header set the tone, Ao Tanaka smashed in a second before the break, and although Pedro Neto gave Chelsea fleeting hope, a calamitous Tosin Adarabioyo giveaway gifted Dominic Calvert-Lewin the clincher.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca summed it up bluntly: “A very poor night."
The Reds’ Held To A Draw
At Anfield, Liverpool’s frustration continued. The champions needed a messy Nordi Mukiele own-goal just to salvage a 1-1 draw against Sunderland, after Chemsdine Talbi punished a horrendous Virgil van Dijk mistake.
It could’ve been even worse — Wilson Isidor was inches away from handing Sunderland their first Anfield win since 1983 before Federico Chiesa produced a heroic goal-line clearance.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, are flying. Unai Emery’s side pulled off a wild 4-3 comeback at Brighton to climb to third. Brighton led 2-0 inside half an hour, but Ollie Watkins — who had scored just once in his previous 19 games — woke up with a rapid double.
Amadou Onana completed the turnaround, Donyell Malen made it 4-2, and even though Jan Paul van Hecke curled in his second of the night, Villa held firm to hand Brighton their first home loss of the season.
Down at the bottom, Wolves’ misery continued with an eighth straight defeat — Igor Jesus’ header gave Nottingham Forest a huge 1-0 win at Molineux. Burnley also stayed stuck in the relegation zone after a 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace, with Daniel Muñoz scoring the only goal to lift Palace into fifth.
