Max Dowman, 16, becomes the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history, scoring in Arsenal's 2-0 victory over Everton with a stoppage-time goal.

Teenage Arsenal midfielder Max Dowman, on Saturday, March 14, created history to become the youngest goalscorer in the English Premier League, at just 16, by scoring in the 2-0 home victory over Everton. Dowman’s historic effort came in the seventh minute of stoppage time.

Just when a goalless stalemate seemed inevitable at Emirates Stadium, Viktor Gyökeres broke the deadlock with a goal a minute from time. Eight minutes later, Dowman etched his name into the history books with a close-range finish, becoming the youngest goalscorer in the history of Arsenal and the Premier League.

The previous record was held by James Vaughan, who scored for Everton against Crystal Palace in April 2005. That milestone stood for almost 21 years before Dowman went past it.

Having risen through the youth ranks at Arsenal, Dowman has now registered two goal contributions in the Premier League. His first came in the form of an assist on his league debut during a 5-0 home victory over Leeds United on matchday two of the ongoing season.

Dowman now has a goal and an assist in seven appearances across competitions for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. This season, he has featured thrice in the Premier League, twice in the EFL Cup and once each in the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, Arsenal struggled to break down obdurate Everton until the teenage substitute turned the match in the final moments.

Aged just 16 and 73 days, Dowman is now the youngest scorer in the history of the Premier League and in Arsenal’s history.

“He changed the game every time he got the ball. He made things happen and we looked like more of a threat," Arteta said.

“To do it at that age, in this context, with the pressure and expectations to win the game, it is just not normal," Arteta added.
