Ashneer Grover fires back after X user asks him to donate ₹900 crore over wife Madhuri's controversial comments

Ashneer Grover is used to making headlines. Sometimes it's because of his business opinions, sometimes because of his blunt social media posts. This time, though, the spotlight landed on him because of something his wife, Madhuri Jain Grover, said on reality show Lock Upp 2.And before long, the internet had pulled Ashneer into the debate too.It all started during one of the show's episodes when Madhuri opened up about a personal chapter from her life. She revealed that she and Ashneer had once wanted to have a third child but couldn't.That wasn't the part people reacted to.What sparked the online storm was what she said immediately after.Talking about family size, Madhuri said that many wealthy families have three children and added that the idea of "Hum Do, Humare Do" doesn't apply to everyone.

She then said that when rich people have more children, wealth grows, but when poor people do, poverty increases.Within hours, the clip was everywhere. Some people felt her comments came across as insensitive. Others said they ignored the many reasons why poverty exists and reduced a complicated social issue to a single sentence. As the criticism grew, content creator Nalini Unagar decided to tag Ashneer Grover directly on X.

In a long post, she questioned why someone with an estimated fortune of around ₹900 crore should keep so much wealth for just two children if he believed poverty was linked to poor families having more kids. She even suggested that he donate the money to around 1,800 families, saying it could change thousands of lives. Ending her post on a sarcastic note, she joked that after donating everything, he could move to the Himalayas and become a monk.

Ashneer wasn't going to let that pass without a reply. His response was short, cheeky and very much in his usual style."Bheek/chanda maangne ka tareeka thoda casual hai. Biwi ne gyaan de diya hai already... itne mein itna hi milega."In simple words, he joked that the request for money sounded like a rather casual way of asking for donations and quipped that his wife's "gyaan" was all the person was getting. The one-liner spread almost as quickly as the original controversy. Some users laughed at the comeback, calling it classic Ashneer. Others said the reply was witty but didn't really address the criticism surrounding Madhuri's remarks.Meanwhile, the internet continued arguing over what she had said. Many people felt the statement was unfair. One user wrote that linking poverty to the number of children a poor family has overlooks bigger issues like unequal opportunities, education and access to resources.

Another said the comments reflected privilege and failed to acknowledge how difficult life can be for millions of families. But there were also people who defended Madhuri. Some argued that while her words may have sounded harsh, her larger point about financial planning before having children wasn't entirely wrong. Raising a child, they said, takes money, stability and long-term commitment, and those realities shouldn't be ignored.Others felt the backlash was more about how she expressed herself than the idea itself. That's often how social media works.A single sentence gets clipped, shared and debated from every possible angle. Soon, the conversation becomes much bigger than where it started. In this case, what began as a reality show confession turned into a debate about privilege, parenting, wealth and inequality. And thanks to Ashneer's trademark humour, it gained another viral moment.Whether people agreed with him, disagreed with Madhuri or simply enjoyed the exchange, one thing is certain—the conversation isn't ending anytime soon.
