Former Indian cricketer Madan Lal expressed surprise at Yashasvi Jaiswal's exclusion from India's 15-member Asia Cup 2025 squad, which was announced on Tuesday.The squad will be led by Suryakumar as captain, with Shubman Gill serving as vice-captain.India's Asia Cup campaign begins against the UAE on September 10 in Dubai. They will face Pa on September 14 in Dubai, followed by their final group stage match against Oman on September 19 in Abu Dhabi.

In his T20I career, Gill has accumulated 578 runs in 21 innings, averaging 30.42 with a strike rate of 139.27. His record includes one century and three fifties, with a highest score of 126 not out.Jaiswal has been designated as a reserve player for the Asia Cup. He previously served as the backup opener to Gill during last year's T20 World Cup, when India opted to open with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.Jaiswal's T20I statistics include 723 runs in 23 matches, featuring one century and five fifties at a strike rate exceeding 164.His recent IPL 2025 performance, where he scored 559 runs in 14 matches with six fifties at a strike rate of nearly 160, had brought him back into T20I consideration.
