The Asian Weightlifting Championships has been postponed due to the ongoing middle east crisis. The continental tournament was originally scheduled to be held from April 1-10 in Gandhinagar.

However, thanks to the current situation after Israel and USA launched airstrikes in Iran resulting, the event will now be held from May 11.

“The Asian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) would like to inform all Member Federations and athletes that, due to the current situation affecting the Middle East and the Gulf region, the 2026 AWF Asian Senior Weightlifting Championships have been rescheduled," the federation said in a statement on social media.

“In order to ensure the safe and smooth participation of all delegations, the competition will now take place from 12 to 17 May 2026," it added.

  • 25 April 2026 – Final Verification Online
  • 9 May 2026 – Arrival of Delegations
  • 10 May 2026 – AWF Executive Board Meeting & Anti-Doping Seminar
  • 11 May 2026 – AWF Congress & Opening Ceremony
  • 12–17 May 2026 – Competition Days
  • 18 May 2026 – Departure of Delegations

The participants will compete in the new weight classes including 60kg, 65kg, 71kg, 79kg, 88kg, 98kg, 110kg, and +110kg for men. For women, the new weight categories are 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg, and +86kg.
