Fresh allegations have emerged from the family of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, with his sister Aleema Khan claiming that there are fears for his life while he remains incarcerated. Speaking publicly, she alleged that Pakistan’s Army Chief, Asim Munir, wants to “kill" her brother — a charge that dramatically escalates the already fraught political climate in the country.

Aleema Khan said that during her last meeting with the jailed leader, Imran Khan told her, “You know, Asim Munir is going to kill me in jail." She added that her sister had initially hesitated to make the statement public, confiding only within the family because they were uncomfortable levelling such grave accusations without clear evidence. “We don’t want to say these things, that Imran Khan is going to be killed in jail," she said, explaining that the family had been reluctant to raise alarm without cause.

However, she suggested that recent developments in his health have deepened their concerns. According to her, when a person who is “perfectly healthy" suddenly faces medical issues in custody, it raises troubling questions. She claimed that several doctors had privately conveyed to the family that one possible explanation for unexplained health complications could be “slow poisoning." While she did not provide medical documentation to substantiate the claim, she said the family had been told “many times" that such a scenario could not be ruled out.

Imran Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has been in jail since 2023 following convictions in multiple cases that he and his supporters describe as politically motivated. His relationship with Pakistan’s powerful military establishment deteriorated sharply during his tenure and especially after his ouster through a parliamentary no-confidence vote in 2022.

Amid the controversy, Aleema Khan said the family’s primary demand is straightforward: that Imran Khan be examined at a reputable hospital by independent specialists, in the presence of his personal physician who is familiar with his medical history. They insist that a transparent medical evaluation is necessary to dispel fears and ensure his well-being.
