A development review meeting in Rae Bareli on Friday turned stormy when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Uttar Pradesh minister Dinesh Pratap Singh engaged in a heated exchange, a video of which has since gone viral.
The fiery face-off took place during the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting, chaired by Rahul Gandhi as a Rae Bareli MP.
The situation tensed after Gandhi instructed the state minister to seek permission before speaking. “I am chairing this meeting. If you have something to say, ask first, and then I will give you a chance to speak," Gandhi said, prompting Singh’s sharp retort.

Singh, once a Congress leader and now a BJP minister who has contested against the Gandhi family in Rae Bareli, accused Rahul Gandhi of flouting parliamentary norms while demanding authority in the meeting.
“Why should I accept his rights when he himself does not consider the rights of the Lok Sabha Speaker? I opposed discussions beyond the scope of the 43 schemes monitored under DISHA," Singh told reporters after the meeting.
The minister further argued that Gandhi should have restricted the proceedings to checking the proper utilisation of funds under these schemes.
“He neither reads the guidelines of the DISHA meeting nor makes his party read them," Singh claimed.
Amethi MP KL Sharma, present at the meeting, intervened to support Rahul Gandhi during the exchange.
The quarterly DISHA meeting is mandated to review progress on central and state government development projects.
It is chaired by the area MP, with district officials, MLAs, and ministers in attendance.
Gandhi was on a two-day visit to his constituency from September 10 to 11 when the incident occurred, said officials.
