ASMC, district hospitals in Pilibhit to now run on solar energy

Pilibhit: In a bid to promote solar photovoltaic (PV) technology and reduce electricity dependency, the Autonomous State Medical College (ASMC) and its affiliated district hospital and district women’s hospital on Monday started using solar power following the completion of a 1.5MW solar energy project.ASMC principal Dr Sangeeta Aneja said the project was launched through Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) to achieve self-sufficiency in power generation and prevent power outages, particularly benefiting intensive care units (ICUs) and critical patient care areas. “The project will last for the next 25 years during which the company will manage recurring repairs and maintenance free of cost,” she said.Officials said the project will produce 7,000-7,500 units of solar energy per day to fulfill the total power demand of hospitals apart from drastically reducing carbon emissions.Haryana-based company, OMC Power Private Ltd, was authorised to set up the solar power system by the state govt on Sept 26, 2024 while a contract was signed on Nov 27, 2024, following which work was initiated in Jan last year. “The functioning of the system would be reviewed every three months,” Aneja added.
