Assam man held for beating brother to death

Kottayam: Police arrested a man from Assam for beating his brother to death at a private rubber company in Poovanthuruth Industrial Estate in the district.The arrested person has been identified as Nayan Baruah, 32 , son of Khagan Baruah, a native of No 1 Salmari N C under Gogamukh police station limits in Dhemaji district of Assam, who resides at Edens Rubber Industries in Poovanthuruth Industrial Estate, Panachikkad village.

The deceased, Mahan Baruah, 47, was the accused’s brother and worked and lived at the same establishment.Police said a dispute over a residential room at the company along with resentment over the deceased allegedly abusing the accused while intoxicated led to the murder. As per the case, Nayan Baruah punched his brother in the face and pushed him down at the company’s food preparation area around 1.30am on June 28. Mahan Baruah, who fell and was seriously injured, was admitted to Kottayam Medical College Hospital but died on June 29 while undergoing treatment.Kottayam East police registered a case and arrested the accused. He was produced in court, which remanded him in judicial custody.
