Assembly Elections 2026 Live Updates: The Election Commission of India on Thursday issued a fresh set of post-poll guidelines for the West Bengal Assembly Election, outlining stricter protocols for handling surveillance systems after voting concludes.

Voting for the 2026 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal closed at 6 pm on Thursday across several constituencies.

In Tamil Nadu, polling was held in a single phase for all the 234 Assembly constituencies in the state. The state has over 5.7 crore registered voters, and authorities have deployed extensive security and logistical arrangements to manage the large-scale exercise smoothly.

In the West Bengal Assembly elections, the polls was held for 152 seats covering 16 districts during Phase 1 today. Central armed police forces were deployed in large numbers, particularly in sensitive areas, to prevent any incidents of violence or intimidation. The second phase of polling in the West Bengal Assembly elections will be held next Wednesday, April 29.

The Election Commission has emphasised that the elections must be conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner, with strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct already in effect.

Campaigning in both states concluded earlier this week, setting the stage for a direct electoral contest between major political parties and alliances. Counting of votes will be held later as per the Election Commission’s schedule.
