Former BJP Tamil Nadu president K. Annamalai has conveyed to the party national leadership his “extreme” displeasure over the constituencies allocated by the AIADMK for the April 23 Assembly election. He is also learnt to have requested the leadership not to identify any seat for him as he had decided against contesting. He would, however, continue to work “as a party karyakarta for all BJP and NDA candidates”.

A Trinamool Congress worker has been shot dead in Kolkata ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections. Kolkata Police have arrested four people in connection with the killing. Tensions also rose in the Basanti area of South 24 Parganas district, where a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) poll rally was allegedly attacked by local TMC workers.

The Election Commission on Thursday (March 26, 2026) said over ₹408.82 crore worth of illicit inducements, including ₹17.44 crore in cash, liquor worth ₹37.68 crore and drugs worth ₹167.38 crore, had been seized through a coordinated approach involving multi-enforcement agencies in the four States and one union territory going for Assembly polls next month.

Assam, Kerala, and the Union Territory of Puducherry will go to the polls on April 9, 2026. In Tamil Nadu, the election will be conducted on April 23. The first phase of elections will be held on April 23, 2026, in West Bengal, and the second phase on April 29, 2026. The counting for all these elections will be held on May 4, 2026.
