The Attappady hills, home to a predominantly tribal population and long known for declining tribal health indicators, have once again drawn attention after the death of a 10-month-old child from a tribal family on Monday (April 13, 2026), renewing concerns over malnutrition in the region.

Ten-month-old Dakshina, daughter of Chandrasekharan and Minnal Rani from Vechapathi hamlet at Sholayur, died at a private hospital at Perinthalmanna on Monday.
