Prayagraj: Allahabad University has issued admission guidelines for international students seeking admission to undergraduate programmes for the 2026-27 academic session, introducing a separate admission process for foreign nationals and non-resident Indian candidates.According to the notification, admissions for international students will be based on academic qualifications and merit. The varsity has earmarked 20% supernumerary seats, with 10% reserved for foreign nationals and 10% for NRI students. These seats will be above the regular intake, ensuring that the number of seats available for Indian students remains unaffected.The university has classified international applicants into two categories.
The first includes foreign nationals, persons of Indian origin and overseas citizen of India cardholders. The second category comprises NRI candidates who have completed their qualifying examinations from educational institutions located outside India.NRI applicants will be required to submit a valid NRI status certificate. Candidates possessing degrees from foreign universities that are not listed in the Association of Indian Universities’ equivalence list will also have to furnish an AIU equivalence certificate at the time of admission.
As part of the admission process, international students must first register on the Govt of India’s ‘Study in India’ portal to obtain a Unique Identification number. They will then have to email their completed application form along with scanned copies of all required documents. In addition, the original hard copy of the application must be sent by post to the office of the International Students’ adviser at the University of Allahabad.The university has fixed a one-time registration fee of Rs 20,000 and an annual university fee of Rs 1 lakh for international students. However, candidates from SAARC countries will receive a 50% concession on both the registration fee and the annual university fee.University officials said the revised guidelines are aimed at streamlining admissions for overseas applicants while encouraging greater international participation in the institution’s academic programmes.
