The BJP-led NDA is set to retain power in Assam with a strong mandate, according to the Axis My India exit poll released after the conclusion of polling in the state.

The projection indicates a clear advantage for the ruling alliance in the 126-member Assembly, reinforcing expectations of political continuity in the northeastern state.

SEAT PROJECTIONS POINT TO NDA DOMINANCE

As per Axis My India, the BJP+ alliance is projected to win between 88 and 100 seats, comfortably above the majority mark.

In contrast, the Congress-led alliance (CONG+) is expected to secure between 24 and 36 seats.

The “Others" category has been projected to win zero seats, suggesting a largely bipolar contest with minimal space for smaller players or independents in the final tally.

These numbers, if reflected in the actual results, would mark a decisive victory for the BJP-led NDA and potentially improve upon its previous performance in the state Assembly.

POLLING HELD IN SINGLE PHASE ON APRIL 9

Assam went to the polls in a single phase on April 9 as part of the Assembly election cycle that also included Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, and Puducherry.

The counting of votes for all these regions is scheduled to take place on May 4.

The exit poll projections were released after the completion of polling across all five regions, with Assam being among the earliest to vote in this cycle.

HIGH VOTER TURNOUT RECORDED IN STATE

The state witnessed a high voter turnout of 85.38 per cent, reflecting strong participation across regions and communities.

The robust turnout is seen as a key factor in shaping the electoral outcome, with both major alliances seeking to convert voter enthusiasm into electoral gains.

High turnout figures often indicate heightened political engagement, and in Assam’s case, the Axis My India projections suggest that the ruling alliance may have benefited significantly from this participation.

CONGRESS-LED ALLIANCE FACES UPHILL TASK

The Congress had stitched together a six-party alliance to challenge the BJP-led NDA in the state.

However, the Axis My India exit poll numbers suggest that the opposition bloc may fall well short of the numbers required to form the government.

With a projected range of 24 to 36 seats, the Congress+ alliance appears to be trailing significantly behind the NDA, indicating that its electoral strategy may not have translated into sufficient seat gains, as per the exit poll estimates.

While exit polls provide an early indication of voter sentiment, the outcome will only be confirmed on May 4, when votes are counted.

Assam remains a key state in this election cycle, and all eyes will be on whether the Axis My India projections hold when the official results are declared.
