BA student ends life over ‘stalking’

Bareilly: A student of BA final-year allegedly died by suicide on Saturday after she was found hanging in her room at a village in Lakhimpur Kheri district. Police said that her mother has accused their 17-year-old neighbour of stalking her daughter for nearly a year.According to police, preliminary findings confirm that the 20-year-old woman, whose father works as a daily-wager in Dehradun, and the teenager knew each other.SSP Khyati Garg said, “An FIR has been registered under BNS section 108 (abetment of suicide) against the neighbour and two of his family members based on a complaint by the woman’s mother.”In her complaint, the mother claimed that the 17-year-old broke into their house around 1am Friday.

“He came from the rooftop and approached my daughter who was asleep in the courtyard and started putting pressure on her to marry him,” the complainant stated.When she raised an alarm, her family intervened to confront the intruder, who allegedly blackmailed them before fleeing by threatening to defame the student by leaking “private photographs” of her.The family found the woman hanging in her room around 5am on Saturday. Police said that further investigation is underway.
