India made an emphatic start to their campaign at the Badminton Asia Junior Mixed Team Championships by defeating Kazakhstan 2-0 (55-31, 55-21) in their Group C tie on Saturday, securing a place in the quarterfinals with a commanding display.
With a decisive group-stage encounter against Chinese Taipei set to determine the pool topper, the Indian team experimented with its doubles combinations while still maintaining complete control throughout the contest.
How India Beat Kazakhstan: As It Happened?
The girls’ doubles pair of Durga Esha Kandrapu and Keerthy Manchala laid the perfect foundation, comfortably overcoming Alissa Kuleshova and Diana Namenova 11-5. The mixed doubles combination of Puneeth Suresh and Deepti Raj Aditi then faced a tougher challenge from Mustafa Malikzhan and Kuleshova before edging a closely fought 11-10 contest, extending India’s advantage to 22-15.
India dominated the remaining disciplines to comfortably wrap up the opening relay before producing an even more one-sided performance in the second relay. The Indian players conceded no more than six points in any individual match, highlighting the gulf in class between the two teams.
India are placed in Group C alongside Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan and the Philippines. After opening their campaign with victory over Philippines 2-0 (110-59), the former bronze medallists will now turn their attention to the clash with Chinese Taipei, with the winner expected to finish atop the group before entering the knockout rounds.
