SHIMLA: A Bailey bridge collapsed in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district on Tuesday, causing a truck crossing it to fall into the Sutlej river, officials said. The driver, however, escaped with minor injuries. The incident took place between Reckong and Tapri on National Highway 5 (Old Hindustan-Tibet Road) near Urni Dhank when the truck was passing over the bridge, according to news agency PTI. The structure reportedly gave way just as the vehicle was about to reach the other side. The road connects Lahaul and Spiti with Kinnaur district. Officials said vehicular movement in the area has not been disrupted as an alternate route is available, and police and administration teams are present at the site. The driver has sustained minor injuries, officials said. Authorities said the truck was overloaded. Videos of the bridge collapse have been widely circulated on the internet.
