Baobab tree cutting case: Suo mtu petition transferred to green bench

Bhopal/Jabalpur: The division bench headed by the Acting Chief Justice Vivek Rusia transferred the suo motu petition taken up by the court relating to cutting, sale and transportation of Baobab trees in Dhar district to the green bench for hearing.When the petition came up for hearing on Thursday, the bench comprising Justice Rusia and Justice Pradeep Mittal said that since the matter relates to cutting of trees, an environmental issue, it would only be appropriate that the petition be heard by the green bench.With this observation, the court transferred the case to bench no. two for hearing.Taking a suo motu cognizance of a media report on alleged illegal cutting, sale and transportation of Baobab trees in Dhar district, the MP High Court had stayed the cutting of Baobab trees, its sale and transportation. Baobab trees are said to be among the most precious trees in the world and its market price is in lakhs.
