Hansi Flick has made a startling declaration: his time at FC Barcelona will be the final chapter of his managerial career.

But whether that chapter gets extended? That’s still up in the air.

Speaking ahead of Barcelona’s crucial Champions League clash against Newcastle United, Flick played down immediate discussions about a contract extension.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has already expressed his desire to extend Flick’s deal beyond 2027. But the German coach isn’t rushing into anything.

“It’s not the right moment… tomorrow is a very important game," Flick said. “Everyone knows I am really happy here. I have to speak with my family first."

“My Last Job"

While his future timeline remains uncertain, Flick left no doubts about his long-term plans.

“I have no thoughts about going to another place… I’m here, it will be my last club, my last job."

Flick has already delivered great success at Camp Nou, including a domestic treble and a run to the Champions League semi-finals last season.

All Eyes on Newcastle

Barcelona head into the second leg after a 1-1 draw away in the first match, a game where they were largely second-best.

Flick knows what’s coming.

“It will be a tough game tomorrow. They’re a physical team, aggressive man-to-man, in transition they are fast players," said Flick.

“We have to play our perfect game tomorrow, and this is important — we’ll try to do this."

Defender Pau Cubarsí echoed that sentiment, admitting Barcelona lacked attacking fluidity in the first leg but expects a different performance at home.

“The intensity they had at their stadium was spectacular. We played in the league phase there too," said the 19-year-old centre-back.

“We had a good defensive set-up but lacked fluidity in attack. It will be different. We’re at home with the fans supporting us."
