Baring few, all councilors in Solapur and Satara-Sangli MLC seats turned out for voting

Shalan Shankar Shinde, murder accused BJP's Solapur corporators arrived from jail with cops guarding her at a polling booth to cast her vote for MLC election

Kolhapur: For Solapur MLC seat, 614 out of 616 voters (99.68%) turned out for voting, while for the for Satara-Sangli MLC seat, 894 out of 895 (99.89%) voters registered cast their ballots at their respective polling booths.

The counting and declaration of results is on June 22.A team of doctors was also deployed at each of the 12 polling booths for Satara-Sangli and six polling booths for Solapur. The voters had to come with a valid identity card showing the name of the local body, voter registration number, photo etc. The officials of the respective local bodies were stationed till the end of polling at 4pm to verify the identity of the voters.There is one-on-one contest between NCP(SP) and BJP at both seats. The elections for MLC seats could not be held for years because there were no sufficient number of functioning local bodies. The councilors, members of the local bodies are eligible to cast their vote and send their representative in the assembly. The elections for the local bodies were held couple of months ago, and the BJP, NCP and Shiv Sena bagged most of the seats, except for Sangli district where MVA had performed well.

So there is no worry for BJP to win Solapur seat, at the same time, the BJP got word from deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde that his party’s 100% councilors will vote for BJP candidate for Satara-Sangli seat-Dhairyashil Kadam.The BJP had taken its councilors from Satara-Sangli to undisclosed locations. They returned after the voting started at 8am. The local leaders of Mahayuti accompanied welcomed them. On other hand there were no MVA leaders visible on ground.In Solapur, BJP corporator Shalan Shankar Shinde who is in jail for her alleged role in murder of a MNS office-bearer during municipal corporation election arrived in police van guarded by cops. She had won the corporation election while staying inside the jail.Solapur district collector S Karthikeyan monitored the polling process through CCTV cameras installed at the polling booths. In Satara-Sangli, district collectors and superintendent of police visited the polling booths.
