Baruipur rape-murder case: One key accused killed in encounter

One of the key accused in the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in West Bengal's Baruipur was killed in an encounter on Wednesday (July 8, 2026), Police said.

A six-member Special Investigation Team along with the Baruipur district police had arrested three of the four suspects named in the FIR, including the prime accused in the case, Ananda Sardar, following overnight search operations and interrogation of three others who were detained.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had on Monday (July 6, 2026) assured the family members of the victim that his government would ensure capital punishment was accorded to all the accused persons responsible for the heinous crime.
