Democrats are throwing brickbats at President Donald Trump after he said on Saturday that he was glad former special counsel Robert Mueller was dead.

Former FBI director Robert S. Mueller III, who led the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election and examined Trump’s ties to Russia, died at the age of 81.

Post his death, Trump took to Truth Social and wrote, “Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people!"

‘Lacks Decency, Unfit For Office’

Senator Adam Schiff responded to Trump’s statement, saying he lacks decency and is unfit for office.

“Every day, this president shows his basic indecency and unfitness for office," Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) wrote on X.

Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said the goal was to distract the citizens from his “aimless war", and the Epstein Files.

“The cruelty is the point. Trump’s goal is to distract you from rising gas prices, his aimless war, ICE abuses, and the Epstein files. Don’t give him what he wants. And may Robert Mueller, a US Marine and lifelong public servant, rest in peace".

Rep. Dan Goldman noted Mueller and the president “represent polar opposites of what a public servant should be."

“Yet the President of the United States disgustingly celebrates Mueller’s death simply because he exposed Trump’s efforts to steal the 2016 election," he added.

“It is clearly wrong and unchristian behavior," Rep. Don Bacon said in a statement to POLITICO when asked about Trump’s remarks.

“The vast majority of Americans want better", he added.

Obama Offers Condolences

Former President Barack Obama in a post on ‘X’ offered condolences to Mueller’s family, emphasising he was “one of the finest directors in the history of the FBI".

“Bob Mueller was one of the finest directors in the history of the FBI, transforming the bureau after 9/11 and saving countless lives," Obama wrote on X.

“But it was his relentless commitment to the rule of law and his unwavering belief in our bedrock values that made him one of the most respected public servants of our time. Michelle and I send our condolences to Bob’s family, and everyone who knew and admired him", he added.

Robert Mueller died on Friday night at the age of 81. He served as the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) under the administration of Obama and George Bush.

Mueller garnered spotlight after investigating the 2016 Trump’s campaign links to Russia during the president’s first term in office.

While the Mueller report “did not establish" criminal collusion between the Trump’s presidential campaign and the Russian administration, the special counsel did observe that Moscow attempted to interfere in the 2016 polls to benefit Trump.
