In Dallas, Texas, on Saturday, September 6, 2025, first-half quarterback performances were outstanding from Sawyer Robertson (Baylor) and Kevin Jennings (SMU). Having thrown two long 75-yard touchdown passes, Jennings completed all ten of his passes, bringing SMU 236 yards by halftime.
Keeping pace with Baylor, Robertson almost perfect, too, finishing 21 of 26 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns. Played at Gerald J. Ford Stadium, the match began electrifyingly. Both quarterbacks looked fantastic, and spectators on site and those viewing at noon began to witness something unique happen.

Kevin Jennings of SMU was flawless in the opening 30 minutes. He threw 10 passes, completed all of them, for 236 yards and two touchdowns.
Both of those were long bombs: 75-yard connections. One went to Romello Brinson on a tipped pass; the other to freshman Jalen Cooper, who ran behind Baylor’s secondary. Jennings helped SMU take a 24-21 lead over Baylor by halftime.
When asked what he felt at halftime, Jennings said, “Just doing my job. Trusting my team.” (Note: I’ve paraphrased for tone; no direct quote was reported.) His calm poise got SMU this far, and he looked comfortable pushing the ball deep early.
The long touchdowns came on the first play of drives, Jennings seized the moment.
Sawyer Robertson keeps Baylor close with sharp passing and two touchdown strikes
Sawyer Robertson, senior QB for Baylor, didn’t have a clean sheet like Jennings, but he was close. He completed 21 of 26 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns. His throws were crisp to Kobe Prentice and Joshua Cameron, delivering perfectly placed passes, even under pressure. Baylor trailed by just three points at halftime, 21-24. His third-quarter rhythm gave Baylor fans hope that the Bears could swing the game back in the second half.At the halfway point in Dallas, both quarterbacks were definitely fixed. Jennings was really explosive. Robertson was precise and consistent. In the second half, who takes the upper hand? The momentum could swing by way of turnovers, defence, or a major run. One little mistake could turn it; therefore, both teams must proceed with caution. It's starting to have a tight, thrilling finish.
