Gurgaon: A 32-year-old BBA graduate was arrested for allegedly robbing a woman of her mobile phone after threatening her with a knife after entering her rented accommodation.The accused, Mayank Aswal, is a resident of IFFCO Colony in Sector 17B.
He works at the office of a local property dealer and was arrested on July 4.According to the complainant, the incident took place on the evening of July 2, when the victim, who works in a private company here, returned to her rented room in Sector 47.The accused, who was in an inebriated condition, saw the gate of her house open and entered the premises. As she saw him and confronted him, the accused picked up a knife from her kitchen and fled with her mobile.
The accused, according to the police, stayed inside for three to four minutes and fled with her mobile phone. “The accused was intoxicated and randomly entered the woman’s house. He is a habitual drinker and was not in his senses as he entered her house and after being confronted by the lady, he took her phone so that she wouldn’t inform the police,” an investigator said.After he fled, the lady raised an alarm, following which nearby residents informed the police control room.
“The victim lodged a formal complaint with Sadar police station, following which police registered a case under the relevant provisions of the BNS. Verification of his criminal record revealed that he has one previous theft case registered against him in Gurgaon,” a police spokesperson said.The stolen mobile phone was recovered from his possession.
