VIJAYAWADA: In what is being described as a significant step in the fight for Backward Classes (BC) rights, Bharata Chaitanya Yuvajana (BCY) Party chief Bode Ramachandra Yadav has announced an indefinite hunger strike starting April 11 under the banner “BC Dharma Deeksha.
” Speaking to media here on Friday, Yadav said that he was compelled to take an indefinite hunger strike route as the state govt failed to respond to the party’s five key demands raised during the “BC Simhagarjana” public meeting held last month. Despite setting a deadline of March 31 for action, the govt has remained silent, prompting the party to move towards direct agitation, said Yadav. The indefinite fast will be held at the BCY party headquarters, “Phule-Mandal Bhavan,” in Mangalagiri.
He stated that the protest aims to address the long-standing injustices faced by BC communities and to uphold their dignity and self-respect. BCY party state leadership made it clear that their supremo Ramachandra Yadav remained firm on his commitment, accusing the govt of going back on its assurances. The BCY Party has outlined five major demands that it wants the govt to fulfil immediately. These include the enactment of a dedicated BC protection Act to ensure social security for BC communities.
The party has also demanded the allocation of 1,000 acres of land in Amaravati for the construction of BC self-respect buildings and other facilities. Another key demand is the conduct of a comprehensive caste census in the State on a scientific basis to determine the exact population of BCs. The party is also seeking 44% reservations for BCs in education, employment, and political sectors in proportion to their population.
Additionally, it has called for the immediate release of funds to revive defunct BC corporations and support self-employment opportunities for BC youth.
“We warn the govt against testing the patience of BC communities and request it to address the demands without further delay. We appeal to all BC groups, democratic forces, and intellectuals across the State to extend their support and make the protest a success," said Ramachandra Yadav.
