A booth-level officer (BLO) and his accomplice have been arrested for allegedly murdering a man over an extramarital affair in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, police reported on Saturday.

BLO Rizwan Hasan Mondal and Sagar Gyne were apprehended on Friday after dismembered remains of 30-year-old Nasir Ali were discovered in a canal in Baduria, according to a police officer.

Initial investigations indicated that Mondal was involved in an extramarital relationship with Ali’s wife. He allegedly lured Ali to a deserted location late on Monday evening, under the guise of discussing issues related to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in West Bengal.

Ali was reported missing on Monday night, prompting his family to file a police complaint the following day.

Through phone call and movement tracking, police located the body parts in the canal on Friday morning. Mondal was subsequently questioned and arrested for Ali’s murder and disposing of the body in three separate locations within the canal.

Gyne was also arrested for assisting Mondal in the murder, dismembering the body, and discarding the parts.

In response, locals staged a half-hour road blockade demanding justice, which the police eventually managed to disperse.
