Kolkata: The state CID will probe the death of Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee at Odisha’s Talsari beach in March, chief minister Suvendu Adhikari announced after attending a meeting in Digha on Sunday.Rahul (42) died while shooting for a TV series on March 29.“Recently, an actor died in Talsari. The Odisha govt has formed a special investigation team. I have instructed the East Midnapore SP to immediately send a request through the DGP to the home secretary so that the CID can take over the case. The actor’s family has filed a case here. It has been registered as an unnatural death case,” the CM said.Officers from the CID homicide section will lead the probe while an SIT comprising their officers, East Midnapore DD and East Midnapore Police may help the sleuths on the ground.The CID will be probing the unnatural death that was registered at the Digha Mohona Coastal PS even as another probe is underway by Odisha Police based on the complaint by Rahul’s wife Priyanka Sarkar at Talsari Marine PS.Rahul’s brother Arinban said: “I welcome the CID probe.”Banerjee had passed HS from Naktala High School in 2002. Regarding the CM’s announcement, Somen Bhattacharjee, secretary of the Alumni Association of Naktala High School, said, “This is a good initiative.”
Mmembers of West Bengal Motion Picture Artists’ Forum want a status report of the investigation that has been done in Odisha. “Rahul passed away on March 29. We still haven’t got any report on the status of the investigation. There are plans to file an RTI to know the status now,” said actor and Artists’ Forum member Debdut Ghosh.He also said this CID probe will have no bearing on the complaint Priyanka filed in Talsari.
