Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha MPs Sushmita Dev, Sukhendu Shekhar Roy, and Prakash Chik Baraik joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kolkata on Thursday, marking a significant political development in West Bengal.

The three leaders were formally inducted into the BJP at the party’s Salt Lake office in the presence of West Bengal BJP president Shamik Bhattacharya and several senior state leaders. During the programme, Bhattacharya welcomed the former parliamentarians by presenting them with BJP flags.

Addressing party workers and the media after the induction, Bhattacharya said the experience and political background of Sushmita Dev, Sukhendu Shekhar Roy, and Prakash Chik Baraik would further strengthen the BJP in West Bengal. He also hinted at major political changes in the state, saying, “The political equation in West Bengal is about to change completely. There is no need to hurry first, watch and see what happens."

The joining ceremony was attended by senior BJP leaders and workers, who welcomed the three former MPs into the party. The development is being seen as a notable boost for the BJP’s leadership in West Bengal, with the party seeking to expand its support base following recent political developments in the state.

The induction of Dev, Roy, and Baraik adds another chapter to the shifting political landscape in West Bengal, where leaders have continued to switch sides in the aftermath of the Assembly elections. With three former Rajya Sabha MPs now joining its ranks, the BJP is expected to rely on their parliamentary experience and organisational understanding as it prepares for the next phase of political activity in the state.
