Citing a Karnataka High Court order, police said protests, dharnas and rallies are permitted only at Freedom Park and not at other public locations.

The online outfit had allegedly circulated an invite calling people to assemble in large numbers in front of Town Hall on May 24.
Bengaluru Police on Friday cautioned people against gathering near Town Hall for a proposed “peaceful human chain" after a viral poster claiming to be from “Cockroach Janata Party Karnataka" began doing the rounds on social media.
The online outfit, which appears to have emerged from satire and social media activism, had allegedly circulated an invite calling people to assemble in large numbers in front of Town Hall on May 24.
In a public notice, police said they had taken note of the social media message and clarified that no permission had been granted for any such event.
“It has come to notice that a post has been circulated on social media under the heading ‘Cockroach Janata Party Karnataka’, inviting people to gather in large numbers in front of Town Hall on May 24 for a ‘peaceful human chain’," the police said.
‘No Permission Granted’
The police further said that no application had been submitted by any individual, organisation or political party seeking permission for such a programme at the venue. Authorities also said no clearance had been obtained for use of the location.
Citing a Karnataka High Court order, police said protests, dharnas and rallies are permitted only at Freedom Park and not at other public locations. They warned that any gathering near Town Hall in violation of the order would amount to a breach of court directions.
Police also urged the public not to knowingly or unknowingly circulate the message on social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and X, and advised people not to gather at the location.
“This notice is issued in public interest to create awareness," the police said.
The purported poster had invited “all cockroaches and fans of the Cockroach Janata Party" to participate in a human chain, claiming it was aimed at demonstrating their strength and sending a message to the administration. The poster also carried the line: “Not just online, it’s time to show power in the streets."
The Bengaluru Police maintained that such a demonstration on public roads would not be allowed under the existing court directions.
