Bhagyaraj death LIVE: Veteran filmmaker dies at hospital after cardiopulmonary arrest

K. Bhagyaraj, a renowned multifaceted Tamil filmmaker who also worked as an actor, producer, and composer, died on Saturday (June 27, 2026), aged 73, following a heart attack at Apollo Hospital.

Sources said he suffered a massive heart attack and was rushed to Apollo Hospital. Efforts were made to resuscitate him, but they proved futile.

Earlier this year, Mr. Bhagyaraj celebrated 50 years in cinema on the occasion of his 73rd birthday.

He is survived by his wife, Poornima Bhagyaraj, and their children, actor Shanthanu and Saranya Bhagyaraj.

He began his film career as an assistant director to veteran Tamil filmmaker Bharathiraja, who passed away earlier this month, on the 1977 film 16 Vayathinile.

People from within and outside the film industry have been posting their condolences on social media platforms.
