Bharathidasan University senate polls on Aug 12, nominations from July 1

Trichy: Bharathidasan University has announced the schedule for the election to its senate, with polling for 16 representatives set to be held on August 12.According to the notification, the issue of nomination forms will commence on July 1.

The last date for filing nominations is July 15, while candidates can withdraw their nominations until July 21.The election is being conducted under sub-section (4) of Class-II (Other Members) of Section 20 of the Bharathidasan University Act, 1981 (Tamil Nadu Act 2 of 1982). A total of 16 members, two each from the eight revenue districts under the university’s jurisdiction, will be elected by registered graduates.The eight districts covered under the election are Trichy, Karur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Perambalur and Ariyalur. Only graduates who have registered themselves with the university for this purpose will be eligible to vote.The university said nomination forms and other election-related details can be obtained from the registrar-cum-returning officer on submission of a written requisition along with a demand draft for Rs500 drawn in favour of “Bharathidasan University, Trichy - 620 024.”Applicants must also enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope worth Rs25 if requesting the forms by post. The elected members will represent registered graduates from their respective districts in the senate.
