Relentless downpour forces closure of both Khed and Ambegaon pathways; authorities warn pilgrims away; resumption estimated 48–72 hours as IMD red alert persists.

Vehicles attempting the journey on Thursday morning found themselves gridlocked mid-approach, unable to advance or retreat safely. (News18 Marathi)
Bhimashankar — one of India’s 12 Jyotirlingas — lies isolated as relentless downpours submerged both access routes to the sacred shrine. The Rajgurunagar-Bhimashankar highway buckled under floodwaters at Gundavalwadi bridge in Khed taluka, forcing complete traffic closure. Simultaneously, the Ambegaon route shuttered at Ghodegaon. Stranded vehicles line both roadways as the district’s monsoon fury peaks.
The dual-route lockdown — unprecedented for pilgrimage season — has severed Bhimashankar’s administrative and supply corridors entirely. Vehicles attempting the journey on Thursday morning found themselves gridlocked mid-approach, unable to advance or retreat safely.
The Pune administration now appeals directly to tourists and residents: skip the shrine visit. Current rainfall intensity suggests both routes will remain impassable for 24–48 hours minimum.
