 Koh-e-Fiza police nab robbery and snatching accused; recover stolen gold chain from finance company

BHOPAL: Koh-e-Fiza police on Monday claimed to have arrested the accused involved in recent incidents of robbery and chain snatching. Three accused, including a woman, were arrested.

A minor was also detained in the case. The woman accused, the wife of the prime accused, mortgaged one of the stolen gold chains at a gold finance company, from where it was now recovered. It was also revealed that the accused were using a second-hand motorcycle to carry out the crimes. Efforts are underway to trace the original owner of the vehicle.Koh-e-Fiza SHO KG Shukla said that on July 3, complainant Ram Bansal, a resident of Nayapura, Lalghati (Koh-e-Fiza), reported to police that on the night of July 2, at around 8:45 PM, his wife was out for a walk with a friend near the outer road of Green Acres Colony. At that moment, unknown motorcycle-borne youths snatched the gold chain from his wife's neck and fled. Based on the complaint, a case on charges of snatching was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Koh-e-Fiza police station.SHO Shukla said that in a separate case, complainant Rimjhim Saxena reported at the police station that on the same evening, around 8:15 PM near a grocery store in Vijay Nagar, three unknown youths on a motorcycle forcefully snatched her gold chain while she was riding her two-wheeler, causing her to fall and suffer minor injuries.

A case of loot was registered under BNS and taken up for investigation.SHO Shukla said that to control rising incidents of robbery and burglary in the city and identify the accused and stolen property, a special team was formed at the police station level. Based on CCTV footage from around the crime scenes, technical evidence, and confidential tip-offs, the police traced the suspects using the motorcycle.Three suspects were detained and interrogated: Mohammad Yusuf alias Bhopali alias Chuchu, 21, a resident of Jehangirabad, Nadeem Khan, 19, a resident of Qazi Camp, Hanumanganj, and a minor involved in the offences.

Upon detailed interrogation, the suspects confessed to their crimes. The police recovered a gold chain worth Rs 1.8 lakh snatched from the first victim and another gold chain worth approximately Rs 1 lakh looted from the second complainant. The motorcycle used in the crime was also seized. All three accused, including the minor, were presented before the court and they were sent to jail.In a significant development, the accused Yusuf's wife, Ashia Bi, who mortgaged one of the stolen gold chains at a gold finance company, has also been made an accused in the case. Police are continuing the investigation and further legal action is underway.
