BHOPAL: IPL all-rounder Shashank Singh, his father and retired IPS officer Shailesh Singh, and the family's driver have been booked by the Bhopal Police after their domestic cook accused them of assault, verbal abuse and wrongful confinement at their residence in Madhya Pradesh's capital. The FIR, registered at Ratibad Police Station on Monday, was lodged on the complaint of Vipendra Singh Tomar (31), a native of Rewa district who had recently joined as a cook at the family's residence in Mendori village, Bhopal. The family's driver has also been named as a co-accused and remains under investigation by the Ratibad Police.

According to the complaint, Vipendra was brought to Bhopal through an acquaintance after being offered a monthly salary of ₹15,000, along with free accommodation and meals at the former police officer's Nilbad bungalow.

He also claimed he was assured assistance in securing a government job in the future. The complainant alleged that soon after joining work, he was subjected to mental harassment and verbal abuse, with tensions escalating over complaints about the food he had prepared. "When I observed the abusive environment and expressed my desire to quit the job and return home, they became infuriated," the complainant stated in his report.

Vipendra further alleged that his mobile phone was forcibly taken away to prevent him from contacting anyone and that he was pressured to continue working despite his wishes to leave. According to the complaint, he locked himself inside a room to protect himself, but alleged that the father-son duo, along with the driver, forced the door open and assaulted him. Police said a subsequent medical examination confirmed visible injury marks on his face and body. Based on the complaint and the medical examination report, Ratibad Police registered an FIR against the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 296(B) (obscene acts and public verbal abuse), Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt/assault), and Section 3(5) (joint criminal liability for acts committed with common intention).
