The opening day ofthe tournament delivered several decisive results.

  • The Kansas State Wildcats beat the Cincinnati Bearcats 91-66 thanks to Taryn Sides, who scored 20 points.
  • Meanwhile, the BYU Cougars secured a 76-66 victory over the Houston Cougars. Houston briefly closed the gap late in the fourth quarter, but BYU held on thanks to balanced scoring.
  • The Arizona State Sun Devils also advanced after defeating the Arizona Wildcats 54–51 in a tightly contested rivalry matchup. Helosia Carrera led the Sun Devils with 16 points.
  • Finally, the Kansas Jayhawks dominated the UCF Knights 56-35, holding their opponent to just 24 percent shooting from the field.

Schedule and upcoming matchups

The tournament continues with the second round on March 5, featuring these matchups:

  • No. 5 Texas Tech Red Raiders vs No. 12 Kansas State
  • No. 8 Utah Utes vs No. 9 BYU
  • No. 7 Iowa State Cyclones vs No. 10 Arizona State
  • No. 6 Colorado Buffaloes vs No. 11 Kansas

The quarterfinals will start on March 6, and the semifinals will follow on March 7. The final game will be on March 8.
