The West Bengal government has announced a major relaxation in diesel supply restrictions, allowing key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, tea gardens, food supply and public services to purchase and transport diesel in containers without the earlier curbs.

The move comes after restrictions on diesel supply in containers reportedly disrupted the functioning of farmers, hospitals and emergency service providers across the state. The government said it intervened to ensure that essential services and daily life remained unaffected.

As part of the decision, major oil companies have been directed to exempt these critical sectors from the fuel restriction norms. Individuals, organisations and customers associated with these essential services will now be able to buy and carry diesel in containers or barrels with greater ease.

The state government has also relaxed the daily limit on diesel supply for eligible customers. To purchase diesel at fuel stations, beneficiaries will only be required to present basic identification documents.
