Malayalam actress Arya Babu has reported an online fraud where scammers created fake Instagram accounts impersonating her boutique. Malayalam actress and TV anchor Arya Babu has filed a police complaint after falling victim to an elaborate online fraud involving fake Instagram accounts impersonating her boutique. The scam, which came to light in May, has reportedly duped numerous customers by advertising high-end sarees at heavily discounted prices.According to Arya, fraudsters created multiple fake Instagram pages mimicking her boutique’s official account by using the same name, logo, and even edited versions of her promotional videos. The scammers showcased sarees worth ₹10,000–₹15,000 and falsely advertised them for as low as ₹1,000 to ₹2,000. Tempted by the unbelievable offers, several unsuspecting customers placed orders through a contact number provided in these fake posts.Once contact was made, customers were sent a QR code to complete their payments. However, after the transaction was done, the phone number was immediately blocked. Victims only realized they were scammed when the promised deliveries never arrived.“I found out about the scam when a customer contacted me saying she lost money after trying to order a saree through what she thought was our official page. Since then, I’ve been getting calls every day from people who have fallen for the scam,” Arya said.

So far, around 15 fake pages have been identified and taken down, but the fraudsters have already created around 10 more, continuing to deceive buyers. Arya also revealed that the edited videos made it appear as though she was personally promoting these low prices, which misled many more followers into trusting the fake accounts. The actress has lodged complaints with the police and the cybercrime cell. Authorities have traced the scam to a gang based in Bihar, and while investigations are ongoing, the police have admitted that tracking and taking action against such interstate cybercriminal networks is challenging.

In response, she released a video on her official Instagram handle warning her followers about the fraudulent accounts.

She urged them to verify any boutique-related promotions directly through her verified page before making any purchases.Arya Babu is a well-known face in Malayalam entertainment, having gained widespread popularity through her appearances on Badai Bungalow and Bigg Boss Malayalam 2.
