NEW DELHI: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Monday resigned as a member of the legislative council, days after being elected to the Rajya Sabha. The move marks a major turning point in the career of Bihar’s longest-serving chief minister, as it paves the way for new leadership, possibly the first-ever BJP chief minister from within the party’s own ranks.Kumar’s entry into the Rajya Sabha also signals a formal end to the long-standing rivalry with Lalu Prasad Yadav, who has largely remained out of active politics and is disqualified from contesting elections. He continues to lead the RJD, with his son Tejashwi Yadav as the party’s main face and Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly.A day earlier, JD(U) leader and Mokama MLA Anant Singh had confirmed that Nitish Kumar would submit his resignation on Monday.
